Even with a fantastic UI like Vista, sometimes hammering out a command on the keyboard has a nostalgic effect if you were born in the DOS era. But hey theres a utility that lets you re-live that DOS era only now, you can make your own commands. This little utility floats on your desktop and lets you create hotkey shortcuts and also type out commands using your own "magic words". Its something that I just gotta have did I mention its free.... read on...

This little tool we are talking about is called SlickRun, it floats around your desktop showing the date and time. Clicking on it allows you to type commands.

So what kind of commands are available? The default windows commands available in a commandshell as well as custom built in commands. See here are a list of available built in commands.

You can also add your own commands or modify the existing commands to your liking. Like here the mail command points to windows mail.

Lets Modify it to point to outlook 2007

After that typing the command "mail" on the slickrun command prompt will launch outlook 2007

There are some additional settings on the visual aspects of the application, you can make it totally transparent as well.

There are also some other options which you can tweak to your liking

This is a simple tool allows you to access your commands and built in windows commands easily and even expand the commandline to include your own commands. This is so simple yet so fantastic I think they should just build something like this in the Windows operating system itself. For its simplicity and usability I just have to give it five cool smilies CoolCoolCoolCoolCool
