Patching windows can be a drag.... What if you did not have an internet connection. Or even more frustrating imagine just having a dialup connection to download all those patches required by Windows... Arrrgghh... How nice would it be if you had a utility to pack it all into a CD that you can use to patch your pc's anywhere with or without the internet... what are we talking about... readon..

Some nice chaps put together all the windows patches together into a few consolidated executable packages. Making it both convenient and efficient to patch your systems from a nice graphical UI. No more hours waiting for patches or cumbersome disparate executables sitting in a folder. They consolidate patches for Windows XP, Windows 2000, Windows Vista and Windows Server 2003. This excellent software also works with answer files or even unattended installs. The patches are distributed as:

  • Core releases, these are the main releases which contain the bulk of the patches.
  • Update releases, these allow you to update a Core release with additional patches as new ones are created.
  • Addon packs, these add additional patches and addons (such as 'sunjava') not distributed in the main Core release or Update releases.

I downloaded the Vista core updates and tried patching my .Net 2.0 so heres a bunch of screen shots:

I did not capture the software license mambo jumbo screenshots, just the standard next, next, next. Ok on with the update process

 1.  Standard Wizard Dialog when you lanch the Application

2.  Hitting next will cause the app to extract all the patches it has... ok wait for a few seconds

Image

3.  After its done with the work. You will be presented with the launching options.

Image

4.  Clicking next will put you in a nice tree menu where you can select all the patches you want to apply

Image

5. I selected the .Net 2.0 framework update

6. And off it goes installing the patches.

7. And whaddaya know it already finished.

8. Reboot...... yes.. no? maybe later?

This application is as efficient as a clock work orange... so it just the job without much fanfare but well thats what we want right. So it downright deserves 5 cool smilies CoolCoolCoolCoolCool but I would have been happier if they really could squash everything into just a single executable... What do you people think? Readers post your comments....

OK Anywayz heres the link download your own Autopatchers my starry eyed readers HERE
