With multicore processors so popular today. You may want to get Vista using the processors the way you want. There times when you run a program and you want it fixed to just a single processor, because running it on a both processors on your dual core system just totally boggs the system down... readon..
Ok how do we go about doing this... I have Vmware so how I get VMware to stick to 1 processor on start up is to just simply write a batch file... and put this in CD "C:\Program Files\VMware\VMware Workstation" start /AFFINITY 2 vmware.exe The /AFFINITY 2 tells vista to load the process on the second processor, to load it on the first processor use /AFFINITY 1. So this way everytime you use the batch file or shortcut it will make the program stick to the selected processor. Simple but it works. The start command also has a load of other switches such as process priority (e.g. /REALTIME) to make sure your program gets more of the CPU slice. This tip gets five cool smilies s simple and elegant solution... nothing to buy just fixes your application to a single processor everytime.
