Linux users have tripwire and aide to ensure that system files are in order and have not been replaced by malicious software. What about windows users? How do you ensure that your system files are in order and not messed up. Or is yours system not working properly and you suspect that a system file is corrupted. How are you gonna fix this? Luckily there is something already built into Vista... readon... Microsoft has added some changes in the security of Windows in a profound way. As such no one seems to be familiar with what was formerly called Mandatory Integrity Control. Presently the same feature is called Windows Integrity Control. Windows Integrity Control is an idea planned for the defense of files against malware by identifying different levels of "reliability" on processes, objects and users. An example of such objects are folders and files. Malicious Windows Vista contains a service that will examine your computer for changed, corrupt, or missing files of system. This service is easy to run from the command prompt. As with all tools for the command-line need the administrator permissions.
Click the start menu inWindows Vista, in the Accessories menu right-click the command prompt and then click run as an administrator. SFC [/SCANNOW] [/VERIFYONLY] [/SCANFILE=] [/VERIFYFILE=] [/OFFWINDIR= /OFFBOOTDIR=]
The most helpful command is simply to scan straight away, which will attempt and scan to repair the files that are corrupted or changed. Just key in at the command line: sfc /scannow
This is an excellent tip... only thing the sfc tool could give more information. For that I give it less 1 cool smiley. Anyway none the less it is an essential tool that Microsoft included... Add as favourites (11) | Quote this article on your site | Views: 4203
