Have you noticed that sometimes when you enter an address at the browser address bar. Your system seems to be doing something in the background and there seems to be some delay. The delay could be due to the fact that your system is resolving the website address you entered. Well there is a way you can speed this up.... read on....

If your ISPs DNS server is a slow poke. It might be slowing down your browsing experience. Then its time to find a new DNS server. Fortunately some kind soul has setup an opendns server for us to use. Well luckily my ISPs DNS server is quite fast so I do not really need an additional DNS server. But having dns shortcuts and the added service of blocking nasty phishing sites led me on to try it out.

So whats are features of using open DNS, take a look at these piccys

What makes Opendns faster then your pokey ISP DNS... well the answer is they have a huge Cache and geographically distributed dns servers...

This is what pops up if I key in an address of a phishing site, so you don't land in the wrong neighbourhood

Opendns also corrects your typos in the address bar

And this is how the shortcuts work

Ok all in all, its a great thing to do. But me being lucky having an ISP with a zippy DNS did not get to enjoy the full benefits of opendns. So I will give it at least CoolCoolCool smileys for the great effort.

Oh... yes... and heres the link... tell me your experiences!!

And just in case your are too lazy to visit the link just key this dns entries into your network settings.

Preferred DNS server address for Open DNS is:

  • 208.67.222.222

Alternate DNS server address for Open DNS is:

  • 208.67.220.220

HAPPY SURFING!
